Supporting Your Classroom From Day One
At Green River Area Down Syndrome Association, we understand that standard classroom inclusion works beautifully when educators have direct access to up-to-date resources and physical classroom supports. Down syndrome is a natural genetic variation, and students who have it excel in traditional academic and social environments when provided with thoughtful structural adjustments. You do not have to design these learning frameworks alone. We actively partner with regional public and private school systems to ensure that educators have the equipment, student advocacy toolkits, and training needed to foster a rich, collaborative learning space for all children.
Three Pathways for Classroom Enrichment
Inclusion & Sensory Toolkits
We deliver specialized inclusion bags and sensory-friendly supplies directly to regional Western Kentucky schoolteachers. These kits contain visual scheduling templates, adaptive writing grips, developmental sensory items, and current classroom curriculum advice cards to assist with daily learning integrations.
Classroom Peer Presentations
To build welcoming school communities, we must engage student peers. Green River Area Down Syndrome Association coordinates child-friendly peer presentations and school-wide awareness assemblies. These interactive sessions teach elementary and middle school students about chromosomal diversity, encourage standard playground inclusion, and champion lifelong kindness and respect.
Structural Behavior Support
When teachers run into complex communication or structural behavior hurdles, our experienced support specialists are here to help. We offer professional educator consultation to help adapt standard behavioral goals, review sensory breaks, implement visual task models, and build environments where students remain highly focused and successful.
Active Partnerships Across Our Counties
Whether you teach within Owensboro Independent, Daviess County, Henderson County, or any of the rural and private districts across our 10 Western Kentucky counties, Green River Area Down Syndrome Association is committed to your professional development. We routinely consult with school Admission and Release Committees (ARCs), distribute current classroom literature during regional in-service days, and provide sensory-friendly materials directly to school resource centers.
