The Power of Community Hands

At Green River Area Down Syndrome Association, we operate with an incredibly lean staff, relying on our volunteer network to turn regional programs into active, successful realities. When you volunteer, you aren't just completing a checklist—you are directly creating a safe, inclusive space where teenagers practice social independence, parents find a welcoming shoulder, and children build confidence. From high-energy events like our annual regional Buddy Walk to consistent weekly commitments like peer-mentoring or compiling educational folders in our Owensboro office, your contribution stays 100% localized to make Western Kentucky a warmer, more inclusive home for everyone.

Ensuring a Safe, Supportive Environment

  • To protect the physical safety, dignity, and privacy of our self-advocates and children, Green River Area Down Syndrome Association maintains a strict volunteer screening process.
  • All prospective volunteers over the age of 18 who register for direct-service positions (such as peer mentoring, bowling outings, and playgroup assistance) must successfully pass a standard state background check and review our simple code of conduct guidelines prior to their first assignment.
  • We provide comprehensive, warm training orientations for all placements to ensure you feel completely prepared, comfortable, and excited for your service journey.

We thank you for partnering with us to keep our community safe, positive, and deeply inclusive.

Take the First Step to Make an Impact

By giving your time, you are actively helping us break down barriers and build a warmer, more inclusive society for individuals with Down syndrome. Let's make a difference together.
